A direct cremation is not instant or quicker, all of the legal paperwork is still required, at the moment due to doctors and the medical examiner (ME) this to date can take over 7 days, also the timescales of the crematorium, by law the family have 48 hours to inspect the paperwork, once this as been completed by the medical examiner. 
 
Neither direct/unattended cremation results in a faster process. There are essential legal requirements that must be met, which include the completion of necessary documentation. 
 
Currently, the involvement of medical professionals and the medical examiner (ME) can extend this timeframe to more than seven days. Also, the crematorium is obligated to adhere to timescales. 
 
According to legal requirements, the family is granted 48 hours to review and inspect the paperwork once it has been finalised by the 'ME'
